Give it E shot! Scuse the pun but do yourself a favour and treat yourself to a break at Eshott Hall. My wife and I together with another couple decided to give ourselves an autumn pamper and booked a 1 night break with dinner in this lovely Northumberland hotel. The palladian villa sits in its own mature ground surrounded by exquisite gardens and woodland. The giant hardwoods are perhaps as old as the building! The hotel has a varied choice of accommodation from adjoining stables rooms and garden cottages but we decided that the featured rooms within the original building merited the extra expense and we were certainly not disappointed. Our room was 'The Wisteria' and I wouldn't be surprised if it was possibly the signature room for the hotel... it could well have had a total makeover recently it was that nice and fresh and faced out towards the front lawn. The lounges and bar were typical for the period that it represented with enormously high ceilings and ornate cornices and a fireplace you could have fit your car into it was so big.. We wouldn't like to cop the bill to keep the fire burning with coal and logs on those winter evenings that are about to be on us in tScusehe coming weeks however. Our next visit will probably be in the summer when we can more appreciate the delightful garden and lawns and generally make use of the tables and chairs around the entrance with some drinks and nibbles. As we have a dog he was happy as larry and was fetted by all the staff and Arlo has already mentioned that he definitely wants a return visit in the not too distant future. .. the breakfast sausages that they treated him to perhaps has something to do with that! Now would a good time to mention the staff... every member of staff was a credit to this hotel and as such the management would do well to remember this.. Particular mention should go to Victoria and Marissa who excelled in their attentiveness to our every need..

Eshott Hall is an 18th century stone hall set in its own wooded grounds. The very attractive building and outbuildings are instantly welcoming and every member of staff we met was friendly and helpful. The room was tastefully furnished in period style but lacked none of the facilities we needed. Breakfast began with cereal or croissants or fruit or toast and jam, according to taste. Following that there was a range of choices from full cooked through eggs Benedict to kippers or eggs (scrambled, poached or fried) on toast with either smoked salmon or bacon. Portions were generous and quality was high. We used the restaurant on one evening and enjoyed ‘fine dining’ and a varied wine list. The atmosphere throughout was restfully calm.

We stayed in the stable block, a short walk on a loose pebbled path to the main house. 2 comfortable days were spent in a well room with the door opening directly into the pebbled stable yard. No sign of horses! The paths around the large house helped us enjoy the stay in a very peaceful country location, with beautifully maintained luscious green lawns, surrounded by long established trees. There are also a flower garden and a kitchen garden, with products from the latter contributing to the delicious restaurant meals. The elegance of the house interior made us feel like special guests. The road from the A1 is relatively narrow, but the absence of houses means hardly any cars!

We stayed on Sunday night and checked in late, hence not being able to rate the restaurant. Breakfast was wonderful though, so I'm sure we probably missed out! The converted stable room where we stayed was a great size. Everything was tastefully done, and the bathroom was enormous (we stayed in "Frankel"). The hotel itself is in a lovely situation, but still convenient for the A1. The staff were exceptional - couldn't fault them, and they went the extra mile for us as well whenever we requested something. I hope to bring the rest of my family up here to stay next time, and for longer so we have opportunity to explore the grounds.

The food is of a high standard and the service is excellent. I got the impression that this is a family run business, and it is clear that everyone there is passionate about the place, the service and the atmosphere. The grounds are stunning, well kept and expansive. We enjoyed a long, relaxing walk. I loved the drawing room where my wife and I spent a late night with tea and a book. Highlight of our stay. My wife describes the place as a mansion out of a Bridgerton episode.
